First-Gear Synchro as Received

firstgearsynchroasreceived.jpg

On receipt, I opened the transmission to inspect it and to make sure it was as advertised. I was a bit disappointed. While most of it looked good, the first-gear synchro "dog teeth" were completely worn out. The part should have been replaced. The lubricant had been drained, of course, but the remaining oil on the gears was a sickly green, probably from oxidation while the transmission was stored, and brown deposits covered much of the inside. It needed (as a minimum) a good cleaning, new first-gear synchro parts, and, of course, new oil.
