The Alternator and Mounting Plate
The kit uses a Bosch AL82N alternator, used in early-1970s VW bugs. You can get a cheapo replacement alternator or the original Bosch one; I chose the Bosch, even though it's a good notch more expensive. Two studs on the generator, to which the plate is attached, have to be cut short. This is a little disturbing, because it prevents the alternator from being replaced if it fails when you are on the road. Unless, of course, you carry a hacksaw in your tool kit.
